Default Excel stuttering and lagging when scrolling through spreadsheets

Hi everyone,

Thanks in advance for helping me out. I'm using Excel in school for financial modeling, and I don't think I'm getting the performance I should be.

Whenever I'm trying to scroll through spreadsheets, things are fairly sluggish and choppy. There is noticeable lag as the screen refreshes to the new area I scrolled to, then there's some more lag before the data appears. This is most annoying when I'm trying to enter formulas into a cell that involve selecting other cells from another location on the spreadsheet. The lag is small, it's not like I'm waiting for several seconds, but it's noticeable enough that it makes it much harder to be precise and time-efficient, which I need.

The models I'm working with it are reasonably complicated with some iterative calculations, but nothing crazy, and I'd think my computer should be able to handle it. I have an i7 8750H (2.2ghz 6 cores), 32gb of ram, and I'm running 64 bit office. The same spreadsheets run much smoother on my peer's computers with much less power (with the same iterative/auto calculation settings). When I recreate the issue in excel and watch task manager side by side, neither CPU nor memory seem to even blink. In general it's a very new, lean machine, so I don't think there's something in the background slowing it down. I haven't put any 3rd party extensions into any office program.

So with all that said, does anyone have any ideas on how I can speed things up?

EDIT: Another potentially useful detail. If I'm working with data that is currently displayed on the screen, everything works fine. It happens when, for example, I hold down an arrow key and I reach the top/bottom of the screen and the spreadsheet begins to scroll and show new data that the lag appears. Or when using page up/down functions.
