Re Question 1: Using Ctrl-A, then applying the same paragraph Style to the whole document would achieve that, but it may also change headings, etc. If that's an issue, you'll need to select the individual ranges and apply the appropriate Styles. Since we don't know what Styles your document uses or how much they might have been abused with direct formatting, it's impossible to write a macro that could reliably achieve the results you want. Hence, contrary to what eduzs makes out, this is by no means 'such a simple thing' you could use the macro recorder for.
Re Question 2: Once you've dealt with Question 1, you may find the problem no longer exists. The code suggested by eduzs won't remove any tabs; only tabstops. Neither will it address indents. If, after you've dealt with Question 1, the problem remains, post back with the details of what you still need to fix.
