You could have a trial version, even if you didn't install it yourself. Many computer manufacturers include a trial, and in some cases it appears that such a version may be "awaken" by a Windows patch being installed. Have you looked in the list of installed programs?
You should also look for the "Get Office" app on the Start menu, which can be uninstalled if you right-click that entry and choose Uninstall.
Yet another possibility is that you have installed OpenOffice or LibreOffice or some other product which includes a non-Microsoft word processor and that word processor is "competing" with Word for the *.doc and *.docx file types. If you are not using those programs, uninstall them.
