OK I tried installing the separate add on for Save As PDF or XPS and this did not fix the problem. I tried uninstalling and the Save As PDF or XPS option is still there in Word. And still is not working. I see from the link you sent me that there are separate add-ins for PDF and XPS and I tried those as well and still no luck in fixing the problem.

OK well maybe we need to go back and review. This is my environment:

Dell Precision M4400 laptop
Intel core2 extreme CPU Q9300 2.53 GHz
8 GB RAM
64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate
Office Ultimate 2007

The problem:

About 3 weeks ago now the option Save As PDF or XPS started throwing an error that a file was in use.

So far I have attempted to repair and uninstall and then reinstall Acrobat Pro 9.x, Adobe R and Reader 9.x, Office Ultimate 2007 and finally the Microsoft Office 2007 Save As PDF or XPS add-in.

I can assure you that the Save As PDF or XPS option came with Office Ultimate 2007 as is and was not added later.

One additional note on this problem, if I disable the option ISO 19005-1 compliant (PDF/A) under the PDF Options of the Save As PDF or XPS options then the error message does not occur and the file is saved as a PDF.

I agree with you that some file has gotten corrupted but I have not been able to locate what file the error message is referring to. I have searched the entire hard drive and there is no file in the format of ~*.* or *.tmp or *.temp anywhere that I can find.
