Presumably 'someone' has used a macro either in Word or Excel to populate the docvariable with the data from the worksheet. There is no 'linking' involved.

As for your requirement to automate document creation, then what exactly are ytou trying to achieve. Maybe https://www.gmayor.com/Userform_ComboBox.html will help?
