Word's indenting works with fixed dimesnsions, whereas the em space is dependent on both the font characteristics and point size.

What you're asking for is a hanging indent, which you can get via Home|Paragraph|Indents and Spacing > Special. You can experiment with the amount of hanging indent until you get something that suits your needs.
