Default OneNote and Attachments

Hi,

I'm trying to sort out some of the key differences in functionally between Evernote and OneNote in order to decide which one I should go all in with for our paperless household. I'm hoping for help with just a couple of key points specifically about OneNote. I've read absolutely every article, blog post, forum, Reddit sub, Facebook group, and Q&A that I could find to try to find answers.

I have a question just to confirm what I've learned from the following thread (which has comments from the past two years up till quite recently): https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice\_onenote-mso\_win10-mso\_2016/onenote-pdf-ocr/5f6b6aba-ce97-4007-a8c6-d272cfa1ce5d. Based upon the comments in that thread, it is my understanding that in OneNote, in 2018, it still does not OCR index attached PDFs (or other file attachments) and therefore it's not possible to search automatically within attached (not inline or embedded) PDFs or other attachments. Is this correct?

It's also my understanding that, if I have an attached PDF, document, image, etc, and I want to edit it, OneNote cannot make and save edits by simply opening and saving the file in place. But rather, the procedure is that I would need to download the attachment, make all the edits, then re-upload the file (overwriting or deleting the original). Otherwise, just simply trying to open and edit the file won't save the edited version in OneNote. Is this correct? If not, can you please explain what is needed to accomplish this?

Thanks so much in advance for your help with this. It will really be helpful to know the answers to these questions.
