There is no reason I can think of that those macros would block Word. I tested them in Word 2013 but have no reason to think they would behave differently in other versions of Word.

Basic questions:
Version of Word you are using?
Operating System?

You could name the macro DraftPrintApply and attach it to a keyboard shortcut or a QAT button. Then run it before you print.
