At least some of that white space is likely to be due to the table's cell margins. Decreasing the right margin for the whole table, or just for cells in that column may achieve the desired outcome.

First, turn off the table's 'preferred width' setting, if enabled. You can then adjust the width of an individual column without affecting the width of other columns. The flip side, of course, is that your table's with will also change when the change an individual column's width. If you want another non-adjacent column's width to be adjusted to compensate, you can adjust that column's width as a separate action. Thus, you'll only ever need to adjust the width of two columns, at most, rather than stepping through the lot.
