For the most part, there is no difference between a 2010 template and a 2016 template. It will depend on your layout.

2016 uses a different text rendering "engine."

What is it that you are trying to accomplish?

In doing this, it is vital that you open the template rather than create a new document based on the template. Then use Save As to save.
