Default Does Outlook 2007 have an email threshold max?

Hi All, my outlook runs super slow whenever incoming messages are coming in. It slows down my whole computer and the only time I can get better performance is if I temporarily disable the automatic send/receive..

There are a few possibilities that I can think of as to why this may be happening, but please let me know what you suggest:

1) I may have too many rules set for incoming messages, is there a threshold number?

2) I may have too many emails in my personals folder. One folder has 54,000 (4GB total) messages in it. My inbox itself has been reduced to 3,000.

Please let me know if you know of a threshold in Outlook that if you reach "x" amount of emails or "x" amount of GB of emails then you will start impacting performance.

Thanks for the help..
