Default Insert Excel sheet

Windows7 + Office '07

I clicked on the upper left corner of the spreadsheet that selected all, copied, selected paste special, Excel spreadsheet object in Word and the result was a light blue rectangle starting at ~1/3 into the vertical of the page, the balance of the sheet off the page and no contents.

It's likely the spreadsheet was too wide.

Isn't there a way to determine ahead of time if a sheet will fit?

What do I do in Word to give the imported sheet the widest possible target area assuming that Word will not do this on its own?

Doesn't Word have a mechanism to auto adjust import sizes?

Is there a better way of importing a spreadsheet in the manner that allows you to click on the sheet and the sheet then becomes an active worksheet?

Thanks,

Mark
