Default 2016 Excel Subtotal Function Changed

It appears the 2016 version of Excel dropped the auto-group function when you apply subtotals. Has anyone else experienced this and figured out how to get it back?

I tried to work around this by highlighting the entire subtotaled area and applying grouping based on the subtotals, but when you click the #2 group button, the subtotals go to 0. In the 2007 version, it would auto-group when I applied subtotals, and when you grouped the area to just see the subtotals (not all of the individual rows), it showed the values for each subtotal. Applying the grouping after the subtotal is in place doesn't appear to work.

Thanks for your help!
