Default

Word 2010 is also much faster than later versions. If (say) you need Word to write data to Excel, Word 10 is around 6 times faster than 2016 using the same macro code. Updating to a later version is an answer to a problem you don't have. The correspondents in this thread all have a variety of versions to provide support for those versions. My guess is that you don't need that.

I too would work in 2010 (and do in Excel), but it is difficult to get Word 2010 to stay as default version when there are later versions present as Office 2016 updates (of which there are many) force the default back to 2016, whatever your preference. Sometimes it is easier to go with the flow.
