Default Word (2007) footer goes walkabout in email

I produce an email newsletter which I produce using Word (an Office 2007, document saved as Word 97-2003 document). The template I use is created by adding a textbox containing a solid colour background and white text to both the header and footer. It looks fine except....

Whilst the header behaves itself just fine, the footer does strange things. For a start as I type my newsletter the footer will usually disappear - not onto the second page, just disappear -but it hasn't necessarily gone! Because when I click on Email, add my subscriber group list, and send, the footer re-appears, usually halfway down the second page (although it can be anywhere on the second page).

Not all my recipients seem to recieve it with this problem, or maybe I should say not everyone has complained that they are getting a section of the newsletter blocked out by the footer!

Can anyone explain this and offer a work-around?

Thanks in advance
