If you still have access to the merge data file from which the document was created, it would be better to split the document as it is merged - see
http://www.gmayor.com/individual_merge_letters.htm or
http://www.gmayor.com/MergeAndSplit.htm. The latter also has a utility to split a document that has been merged as a letters merge by the Word mail merge process.
