I do not know if you need VBA at all. I do not have version 2016 so, this may not apply but, you can try.

From the top menu selection, select TOOLS then OPTIONS then SAVE. From the resulting drop down menu, click on "Save AutoRecover info every ___ minutes". Make you selection and click OK...exit out.
