so it should read 4.4.1!!
You need to set up the numbering following the steps at How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly

For any documents likely to be edited much, you need to do this. Just clicking on the numbering buttons on the ribbon is going to cause problems.
