Default 'Art objects' and 'auto shapes' does anyone know what these are?

Does anyone have any experience with 'auto shapes' or 'microsoft art objects'?

I've come across someone selling Word templates and her artwork is in these formats when I look at it in the selection pane.

Some of the artwork is intricate lace/linework and some of it is varied shapes put together to create floral motifs. All of her artwork is editable by selecting the artwork and going to... 'drawing tools' - 'format' - 'Shape Fill'. The artwork appears as a single object in the selection pane and NOT as a grouped set of shapes/lines etc...

I'm creating the same style of files except I'm having to create it all within Word (2016) using the shape and line tools. This creates large files and Word isn't a graphics editing program so it's kinda frustrating and a bit slow/limiting.

If anyone has any idea what these two formats are or how to create them I'd looooooove to know more!
Thanks!
