Yes, you could do that, but that results in a large increase in the line height. My technique has a minimal effect on the line height. If a small increase in the line height is acceptable, use:
{EQ \o (°,B)}
or:
{EQ \o (°;B)}
as before, but superscript the ° (which is a degree symbol) and increase its point size by about 25% (e.g. if the font size is 12pt, make the ° 16 pt) and leave the B at the original size. That is also a much simpler field code than your construction.
