Default new object default size

Is there a setting for the default size of a new object (shape, text box, etc.)?

In earlier versions of PowerPoint, one could insert an object by selecting the object from the menu and then clicking anywhere on the slide. The new object would be about 1 inch in size. With PPT 2013, new objects are so small that they are hidden by the resize markers.

Similarly, in earlier versions of PPT, new text boxes might start out small, but would expand to the right as new text was typed (even off the page if necessary). With PPT 2013, new text boxes have a default width of 1 character and wrap the text downward as new text is typed, leaving a column of single letters.

Is there a setting somewhere that controls this behavior?
