Flash drives are notorious for losing data and should be avoided as save locations ALWAYS save to the hard drive and COPY to the flash drive. Then COPY to the hard drive for editing. Had it been a PC, you could have used http://www.gmayor.com/SaveInTwoPlacesAddIn.htm to save the document and copy it to the flash drive, but it is not compatible with the Mac.
