You might be able to get something like what you are requesting by saving your document as a pdf and then converting the pdf back to Word (requires Word 2013 or later or a third-party application). The reason I was asking was that I'd been editing documents converted from PDF where the line numbers did not change. However, exactly as you mention, it is a mess to work with, which is why I tried to make this workaround.

I've gotta try and find another way to do this. Have a nice weekend mate.
