The problem is that I want to be able to look at the insertions and still have the correct line numbers as the original legal document in order to make correct references when negotiating the legal document the next time.

The issue is that I do not want the line numbering to be continuous anymore. I want to lock it now as the base legal document is so that once I start making insertions in the document, they will not cause the line numbers to be changed.
