I have a data sheet that has answers to a survey that are words rather than numbers. I'd like to be able to sum how many answers were given by respondent. Is there a formula that sums any type of entry in a cell or does sum only work with numbers. For example

respondent cell 1 cell 2 cell 3 cell 4
respondent 1 yes no yes
respondent 2 no yes

I'd like to be able to add a column to sum that respondent one gave 3 answers and respondents 2 gave 2 answers. Doesn't matter what the answers are. Just which questions they typed a response in.

Is that possible?
