Default Splitting Cells in a Very Large Table

Does anyone know if there is a way to select all or specific cells (within a column) to split each cell into 2 rows (cells)? I have a very large table with a different number of cells (rows) in each column. The last column in the table currently contains 256 cells (rows) and I need to add a column that will be even larger (512) cells (rows) to the right. When I went from 128 to 256 rows I split each cell by hand after adding a new column to the right, but 512 is just too much to do individually. I've tried selecting the whole new column or groups of cells, but Word doesn't give the option on right-clicking of splitting cells. I've thought about simply creating a new table of 512 rows and placing it next to the first table but that creates other problems.

Thank you,
Paul
