Default Problem Linking Existing Powerpoint Graphs to data in Powerpivot

I am working on a project that involves multiple waves of a study. I was given a PowerPoint presentation and data which outputs in an Excel document using Powerpivot. Right now for each wave of the study I have to manually update the numbers on the graphs. I would like to automate the process so that for the next wave, when the numbers in the Excel sheet change, the numbers in the PPT update automatically. I have tried using "edit data" for each individual graph in Excel and linking the sheet but Powerpivot gives me the raw individual level data in a table rather than the grouped data that I want. Is there a way to get that group level data to show up in the "edit data" table or is there another way to better go about this problem?
