I think we may have a language (or jargon) problem. I do not understand what it is you are trying to do. I do not understand what is happening instead. I'm sure that what you are asking has meaning to you, just not to me.

"Indent" = paragraph margin
"Tab setting" = places for insertion point to jump to when you press tab key

Simple I want to modify a style to have an indent of 2.0 cm

HOW?
Which style?
  1. Show the styles pane.
  2. Right click on the style you want to modify.
  3. Click on "modify" and a modify style dialog will open up.
  4. Click on the format button.
  5. Select "Paragraph."
  6. Set the Indent(s) that you want.
  7. Click on OK
  8. Apply the style.
Quote:
Can't edit the text box at the bottom

This text can not be manualy edited to any other value.
Indent: Left: 1.27 cm, Tab stops: 1 cm, Left, Based on: Normal
What text box? What text?
Quote:

Clicking on the indent button gives fixed values of 1.27, 2.54, 3.31 etc

Simple question I want to indent to a value of my choosing.
Which Indent button? Where do you find this button?
