Hi,
  1. You should not put any text in the footer, including the field. Period. If you ever use Word to make envelopes or labels you will regret it. You do not need to do this. I remember making this understandable mistake in Word 97.
  2. "Doc1.docx" indicates that you created a new document based on the normal template, not opened the normal template.
    How to Open the Normal Template You should not have to open the normal template, though, to change settings.
  3. The normal template, in ribbon versions of Word, is named normal.dotm. You cannot take another template and rename it to be normal.dotm without disabling functions in Word, though.
