Default
If you have not changed the default location enter or copy
%appdata%\Microsoft\Templates
to the address window of Windows File Explorer and you will be taken to the folder that contains the user templates. Note that this folder is normally hidden.

You will have to open each old template you wish to use in Word 2016 and SaveAs with the same name and location, or you will see Compatibility Mode in the title bar of documents created from that template.
