Default Automate changes of style in word 2007

I've searched for a way to do this using auto-format and macros but I don't think it can be achieved...at least I've drawn a blank. What I am trying to do is this:

I receive a high volume of documents that are formatted using different styles for headings, paragraph indents etc. These then need to be copied and merged into one master document but the formatting of the master doc is different, so I end up manually copying & pasting text and manually changing styles for upwards of 100 pages. Needless to say, this takes a long time.

What I am wondering is there a way to make a macro whereby I run the macro and everything formatted in the source doc as style A updates to style B in the master doc.

I am guessing probably not...but I'm ready to be schooled! Thanks for reading.
