Well, let's review what you said in post #1:

The import of that is that the way Chrome is configured on your System interferes with Word's operations and that you can change those setting to remedy the matter. Simply shutting Chrome down doesn't change its settings or the interference they're causing.

You might try repairing the Office installation (via Start > Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair) but that's not necessarily going to remedy problems caused by Chrome.
