I apologize for not being clear.

  • If you do not include any paragraph marks in your AutoText, paragraph formatting will not be copied. You would also lose any numbering until you reapply a style in the destination document.
  • If you are using Styles for your formatting (both in creation and use of the AT) and the style has already been used in the destination document, you should not have this problem. If you are using different styles (style names) in your source than your destination, you will keep the original formatting from the source.
  • Numbering must be attached to styles using the methods set forth in How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly. Failure to use the steps, all of the steps, set forth there, will cause you problems sooner or later.
This is the same calculus used when you copy or insert text from one document to another. AutoText is simply a way of automating that.
