Default Numbering

hi guys,

could someone guide me how to set numbering for my document? for example.

1.1. Introduction
1.1.1. Men
1.1.2. Old men

2.1. Objective

2.1.1. abc
2.1.2. cde

and so on.
.................................................. ..................................................
this section is my problem. when i am at section 2.1. the subsequent numbering will be like this.

1.1. Introduction
1.1.1. Men
1.1.2. Old men

2.1. Objective
1.1.3. abc
1.1.4. cde

it continued from the number of old men. could anyone advice me how to solve this problem?

Hi,

The problem might be with your 2.1. Objective heading.

Try deleting this heading completely then add a new 2.1. Objective heading using a heading 2 style.

If that does not work, try deleting 1.1.3. abc completely then add a new 1.1.3. abc heading using a heading 3 style.

There are a few other things you could try, one of them is importing heading styles from another document which has headings that are numbered correctly and the other is to create a new heading list.

Hope this helps.

If this is not style-based numbering, try copying the format from a working paragraph and pasting it to the problem paragraphs. You can use Ctrl+Shift+C to copy and formatting and Ctrl+Shift+V to paste it.

For stable numbering, I recommend style-based numbering, though.

With style-based numbering, you can try resetting paragraph formatting, including numbering, by selecting the relevant paragraphs and pressing Ctrl+Q.

For more on properly setting up multilevel lists associated with paragraph styles, see http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...g20072010.html.
