Default Can Word auto type text for me?

Is it possible to set a word document to open a prompt window when opened, and insert the typed text in a paticular location?

I have a document which I change 3 lines of text daily. It would be easier if, when I open the docx, that I'm asked to fill in 3 bits of info (like on a form) and when I click next/ok, they are automatically inputed into a specified location on the document.

Can this be done with word??

Default Content Tool Control Links

Hi,

I have just been researching something similar myself and you will now benefit from about four hours or so of my time…

Open MS Word, you will need to be using Word 2007 file format.

You will need to make two changes to the Microsoft word options to help you.

Click on file, options, advanced, show document content, field shading (select always). This will then show you that you have a field, with grey text, rather than just text itself. This will not be shown when you print, or print preview. You can always changes back to, when selected, but I would suggest you leave it is always.

You will alsoneed the developer tab on your toolbar (Word options, Customise Ribbon, Select Developer check box under 'Main Tabs')
The developer tab should appearon your toolbar when you select okay, and within this you will have content controls. There are nine different types, which you can play with at a later stage, but for this example choose the top left-hand corner Aa.

Type in a line of text e.g. "this is example text line number one".
You will find that you now have this text in a content control box.
Go up to the content properties of the developer content control toolbar, select this and give this box a name, such as Example 1
Do this again...e.g. "this is example text line number two".

Save this document as "This day text", do not close this file.

Create a new document (CTRL+N) and save this as "My Template"

Go to the first documentand highlight the words in the first content control box "this is example text line number one". Ctrl+C (Copy)
Go to the My Templates file, select where you require this content to go, for the moment we will leave it on the first line and you must then paste special…you do this by going to the home toolbar, at the very left is a paste icon, select this and then 'Paste Special', then click on the link and select the text as formatted. You have now linked to the text from the daily file to the template file.
Do the same again for example line two text.

You should now have two files open, and they should now be identical with the text. Close down the my template file, which should talk about line one & two.

Go to the my daily text file and change the word one, into three. Change the word on the second line from two into four i.e. you have changed the original text, so that it is now out of step with your my template file. Close this file.

Open the my template file and you will be asked whether you wish to update the links, the answer is 'Yes'and you will now find that the text will change from one & two, to three & four..

Now, each day you would change the text in your 'My Daily Text' file, then close it, and all the way through the day your template filewill show the text that you have selected for that day.

There are numerous other content controls you to play with, and this includes a date content control field as well, you would just change the format type within the content control properties. have a play!

Hope this helps.
