Default Editing Default Word 2007 Template

Hi, I want to make it so that whenever I open a new Word document, there are page numbers on the bottom right hand corner (Page X of Y). What I have done is open a file, put the page numbers there, and save the file as a Macro-Enabled Template in App Data\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates. Then, I go into that folder, rename the file "Normal.dotm" to "Old Normal.dotm." Then I rename the new file "Normal.dotm." For a short time period, the new documents that I opened in Word actually had the page numbers. But, something happened, and now the file that is "Normal.dotm" does not have them anymore, and I am back where I started. Anybody know what happened? More importantly, how do I fix it? Thanks.
