Very frequent heading style, but still not built in Word!!!!! why???

please, see the attached image that shows my question

I'm wondering why the above mentioned heading style is not built in in the platform of Word till now!!!!!

I do know that i can customize it, recently, i did it using Word 2010, but all the time i got a problem!!!!! i got a black box!!!!!

how to suggest this improvement to Microsoft Office?

Hi Jamal,

The Heading 1 Style is built into Word. As discussed in a previous thread, it appears your document has some form of corruption. We have also discussed how that can be rectified.

Thank you Paul for the answer.

It is not fully built-in Word. i needed to add the "Chapter" Word to have exactly what i need. That what has caused the problem of Black box. As i removed this customization "in the same file", all is working very well...!!!.

what i mean, why we don't have a the following built-in heading (fully) in the list library (please, see the attached image)?

my question: is the following style is built-in (without customization) in the list library ?
-----------------------------------
Chapter One Heading 1
1.1 Heading 2
1.1.1 Heading 3
------------------------------------

regards

Jamal

Hi Jamal,

The heading 1 Style is built in, but Word cannot possibly incorporate every possible variation of that Style that customers might want. That is what customization is for. Since you seem to have ongoing corruption issues with incorporating 'Chapter' into the list numbering, that suggests the document corruption hasn't been fully cleared out of your document and/or there is a problem with your Word installation. Try repairing Word (Word options|Resources|Diagnose) and employing the corruption fix used last time.

and what's wrong with the style I'm suggesting to be in "list library"? most of the academic work requires this kind of style.

Jamal

this is the style that I'm looking for:
-----------------------------------
Chapter One Heading 1
1.1 Heading 2
1.1.1 Heading 3
------------------------------------

Hi Jamal,

You can't have 'One' as the level 1 heading number's format, then have a different number format (eg '1') for the same number at the lower levels. You can have something like the attached, though.

Thank you Paul.

That wasn't exactly what I'm looking for!!!!

the academic style that we are required to follow is:

-----------------------------------
Chapter One Heading 1
1.1 Heading 2
1.1.1 Heading 3
------------------------------------

the one that you have sent doesn't exactly mach this!!! Heading 2 should be of the format:
1.1 but not 1

this is why i have been asking to have it the built in library of Word. sounds that this style can't be customized!

How can i have EXACTLY that style of headings?

regards

Jamal

Hi Jamal,

AFAIK Word can't provide headings with that construction. You can easily have:
Chapter 1 Heading 1
1.1 Heading 2
1.1.1 Heading 3
but not:
Chapter One Heading 1
1.1 Heading 2
1.1.1 Heading 3

The attached document provides a workaround, using some field coding to generate the Chapter numbers via a STYLEREF field that looks at Heading2. Note that this leaves a small space in the TOC, but that won't be seen in the printout.

thank you for your enormous efforts Paul.

Actually, as i start new chapter (say chapter three), the heading doesn't take the same format as in chapter 1 and two (attached)!!!!

then the heading will be inefficient is controlling whatever belong to it!!!

what should i do know?

Jamal

thanx Paul.

Although the title "analysis" belongs to heading 1, it doesn't take the same format!!!!!

i mean:

it should appear like: Chapter Three Analysis

Jamal

Hi Jamal,

You need to copy the 'Chapter Two' text & field code.

Note: The copied 'Chapter Two' won't update to 'Chapter Three' until after you create a paragraph in the Heading 2 style.

thanx Paul.

the problem still there!

i don't need to have (heading 1) at all in this case, as this will be confusing!!!!

the code that you have developed requires "heading 1" to be there!!!! and to be heading 1 = "1 some title", i don't need this bit.

what i need is heading 1 = "Chapter One: some title"
heading 2 = "1.1 some title"
heading 3 = "1.1.1 some title"

is this STYLE possible in Word?

regards

Jamal
