Default Customer selection in Word

Hello from the Czech Republic,

first let me show you what I want. I want to choose a customer in one form field and then let Word fill the other form fields for me.

There are not that many customers, but the number is growing. I am a service engineer for a small company and these are service reports I have to fill after every service. This type of automation (there are others) would help me very much.

I don't know anything about macros or anything else, but I am willing to learn everything I need, just tell me how do you think this problem should be approached.

Hi Jackissimus,

Word is not really suitable for this on its own. Although you could use a dropdown formfield for the customer selection, that would limit you to only 25 customers.

What you need is an application like Access that can hold many thousands of records and produce reports. Alternatively, you could use an Excel workbook with a dropdown like the attached, though Excel isn't as good as Word or Access when it comes to producing nicely formatted reports.

Thank you Macropod, it's clear to me now that I will have to learn how to use Access. It will make my work much easier.
