How do I remove page numbers from a column document in Word?
hello guys
How do I remove page numbers from a double column document in word. It's a landscaped styled manuscript with like 400 pages. Each page has 2 columns and page number for each columns. So how do I remove all the page numbers? In the header and footer section of my word 2016, under the insert tab, when I click on the 'Remove Page Numbers', it does nothing. The numbers are still there. Is there a step by step procedure to remove the numbers from the the entire manuscript? I'd really appreciate the help Thanks. |

Open the header or footer as appropriate, then press Alt-F9. There I imagine you'll see fields coded something like:
{={Page}*2-1} and {={Page}*2} Delete those fields, then press Alt-F9 again.

The only thing that showed up when I pressed alt-F9 was '{}'
Just the brackets and nothing more |

That tells me you probably pressed Ctrl-F9, not Alt-F9.

Hi again
I hope I'm allowed to post links to the image on this forum. https://i.ibb.co/bL943Sp/inx.png I photographed a double page of the manuscript After clicking on the 'footer' in the 'insert' tab and got a drop down menu and clicked on 'edit footer' I got like the dashed lines at the top and bottom of the page as shown in the image but then the page numbers just happens to end up outside the lines I tapped the 'left alt' and '-' at the same time and then pressed F9 and nothing showed up |

You do not need the "-" but only the Alt key with the F9 key.
You can delete page numbers by editing the footer, selecting the page number, and pressing Delete. There may be multiple instances in your document in different headers and footers. Page Numbers in Word 2007-2019 (365) |

If the 46 in the right-hand column is what you're referring to as a page number, that appears to be a simple number typed in the document body, not a page number created via a PAGE field in Word. In that case, you'll need to delete them individually.
It may be possible to automate that via Find/Replace, though. If you can attach a document to a post with some representative data (just a couple of pages - delete anything sensitive), we may be able to work something out for you. You do attach files via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.
