Default Protected field template issues

Hello

I created a template that I need to protect so employees can only use the styles created in the Style Pane.

In the table I have two styles that it is beside each other.

One is called "Resume Name" Arial size 26 and then the other one "Resume Title" Arial size 11.

When I restrict formatting "Limit of formatting to a selection Style", when I click inside the Resume Title to type the font change to Arial 26 and it suppose to be 11.

When I restrict that style it grey out all my style pane and I don't want this to happen. I want all to use the styles under the Styles Pane.

Can you help me and explain to me what is happening?

You will have to add all the styles you want to the list of permitted styles.

When you have restricted styles, you can't apply any formatting directly. You can add character styles to your list of permitted styles if you want to allow changes of the font formatting for a text range.

  1. You have a huge number of Styles allowed.
  2. The style you have set for your Registration content control is Resume Title but it is in another paragraph which is set as Resume Name.

Try creating a Character Style to handle this part of the paragraph (instead of a paragraph or linked style).

Here is your sample using another character style called Resume New.

Thank you so much! It worked but why I can't use the same style in different field?

"the same style"
Not sure what you are referring to here.

You can use the style I created in a different field.
If Resume Title had been a character style, it would have worked.
Character Style v Paragraph v Linked

I suspect that you may, correctly, have the box check to disable linked styles. I do. That may be the source of the problem.
If that box is checked a linked style acts as a paragraph style. You cannot have two paragraph styles in the same Word paragraph without a Style Separator.

I really dislike linked styles. See what John McGhie wrote about them here.

It is also possible that content controls and restricted editing ignore the linked style part and just use the paragraph attributes. I have not tested that. Like I said, I really dislike linked styles.

By the way, IMO, style names should make sense and in some way be related to their use. To me, "Resume Title" makes no sense in this use. (But then, neither does "Resume New.")
