Post Instantly converting words to Greek letters

Hi,

I frequently write Word documents (Word 2019) with a lot of equations, using a lot of Greek letters. It takes a lot of time to go through the Equation section and manually click each Greek letter when it's needed.

I was wondering if there was some way I could manually assign a transliteration where I type a Greek letter phonetically and it converts the word to the actual letter.

E.g.: I type "rho", and "ρ" appears, or I type "tau" and "τ" appears to replace it.

Is there some way to set this up in Word 2019 settings?

Thanks!

Yes, it is called AutoCorrect.
Automated Boilerplate Using Microsoft Word

A shortcut for this is on the Insert Symbols dialog.

Clicking on the AutoCorrect Button gives you the dialog to add the symbol.
I would recommend using a name that would not be typed by accident. Here the proposed name is "\rho."

Note, though, that most (if not all) Greek letters are already in the Math AutoCorrect list in both Upper and lower case. To use those in a regular document you need to check the box to use them outside of equations (the math area).
