The maximum file size handled by Word is 512Mb. The maximum amount of text a Word document can contain is 32Mb. A 1.8Gb docx or docm file (which Word could not open) therefore cannot contain only text; it must contain many very large pictures or other objects.

original file was in excel.....some columns via mailing moved to word ( mailing>directory). is it possible that cause the file be very big?
original file in excel is about 250M. but when data transfer to word, file will be very big.

That suggests you've done some kind of mailmerge, with the result that you have many copies of some content. Naturally, depending on what that content is and how many records you merged, you could end up with a very large file. The size of the Excel file isn't particularly relevant in this case, though a 250Mb file size suggests you might have merged some thousands or records into a single Word document.
