Linguistic feature matrices
Is there a way of creating a linguistic feature matrix in Word? A linguistic feature matrix is a list of features, for example phonological features like [+voiced], [-strident], [+continuant], [+consonantal]. They should appear vertically arranged within a pair of square brackets. The matrix may either appear with a line of text, e.g.
[matrix1] --> [matrix2] / X ___ Y or it may appear underneath another letter, e.g. under the 'C' in the following example: C --> [matrix2] / X __ Y. The page formatting should adjust itself to accommodate the matrix, and the text in the matrix should not be larger than the surrounding text. Thank you! Help would be appreciated. |

See if you could use Word's Equation feature (Insert | Equation).
