Default Title centered vertically, author at bottom

Hello,

I want the title page of my document to have the title itself centered vertically and the

by
My Name

at the bottom of the page. I have the title centered vertically just fine, through the Layout> Page Setup> Page> vertical alignment- center. But when I try to put other stuff at the bottom by returning several times it pushes the title upwards. How can I accomplish this task?

You could put the bottom part in a text box and move it down. For that matter, you could have put the title in a text box and centered it.

Make sure the rest of your document is not centered vertically, or things will get interesting.
Your cover page should really be in a separate section if it is vertically centered.

Thanks, but that did not work. When I dragged the text box to the bottom the title went all the way to the top.

What Charles suggested is easily to do without getting the results you reported. It does work!

Actually, it does NOT work.

I tried it and when I grab the text box and drag it down the title moves up so that the center of the space between the title and the text box stays in the center. I have attached the exact example I used. Drag the text box down and you will see the title move up.

Here are two examples. My preference is Example2.
Neither used vertical center alignment.

I was wrong about vertical centering.

Example 2 uses 2 text boxes. It also starts the page numbering on the second page with page 1.

Thank you Charles!

I only see one file, not two. So I am not sure what happened to your other file.

In the one I see, it looks like you did this: You put 300 pts of space before the title, correct? That is what puts the title in the center of the page, if I understand correctly. And when I grab your text box nothing else is impacted, so that is great!

Did you happen to look at the example I posted? Is the text box movement in my example a result of the vertical centering only? I see you used normal centering.

Thanks again!

Look in the forum for the second one.

Ah, now it shows up.

Would you mind explaining what is different in the second example?

Thanks!

Look at them.
One uses two text boxes for positioning, aligned to each other's center.
It has no page number on the cover page but will have page numbers on any following pages. The title is set for small caps.

I would do this with a table rather than text boxes.

If you created a three row, one column table with no visible borders you could then make the second row very tall and have the first and last rows at the same height as each other. Cell 2 you give center alignment, Cell 3 you bottom align. Cell 1 remains empty and is only there to ensure the content of cell 2 is balanced vertically on the page.

Tables are a bit more stable than textboxes. Make sure that you have table gridlines displayed when using them.

My preferred method would be to add the required Spacing Before (or Spacing After) to text paragraphs.

Stefan
I don't think that would work as the OP wanted the ability to add titles with 1, 2, 3 or more lines without moving the content at the bottom of the page. You can add the Space Before and After but you will need to micromanage it every time the text in the middle of the page adds/subtracts a line.

I obviously overlooked that requirement. Thanks.

Of course, the content at the bottom could be in the page footer, but if that isn't an option, using a table (or possibly text boxes) will be necessary.
