Default Word does not stop at the set tab, but it keeps forever on the same line like it would in Notepad.

Hello everybody!
I am new at the Forum.

I am an old guy [75] please bear with me!
I am using Microsoft Word 2016.
Somehow, something changed and lately, Word does not stop at the set tab, but it keeps forever on the same line like it would in Notepad.
Somebody told me to select Print View, and it works, but then it will not show the page color background that I like to have since is easier for me to read.
Is there a way to fix that? Will somebody be so kind as to guide through?
Thanks for your time!
Dan

Someone told you correctly. Print view is the one that obeys margins.

I think you mean the margin or right indent, not the tab settings.
