Footnote Problem/Glitch
I have a bizarre problem. I have Microsoft 2011 and am using a Mac. In word a one inch space keeps being inserted into a footnote on the first page. It is between two other footnotes on the page so it is not a page break. I will delete the space but then 5 minutes later it will re-insert itself. It is DRIVING ME CRAZY. |

Check the setting for your Footnote Text style.

Okay, and then what? Is there something I ought to look for?
I clicked around in settings for Footnote text style to no avail. It is just in one specific footnote (my second footnote) on the first page even though the document in general has many footnotes. I tried moving the footnote and cutting it and then re-pasting it but the problem always returns. |

Space-before, space-after paragraph formatting.

Nope, there is zero space before space after paragraph formatting. The footnotes are single-spaced and the document double. Also this is not one space it is a whole inch of space.
Attached is a screenshot if there is any confusion |

How about keep-with-next or keep-lines-together formatting?

Can you walk me through the steps for that?

Not on a Mac. It is paragraph formatting. Same dialog you would look at for space before/after except that it is on a different tab of the dialog. |

How about sample pages with the footnotes and the problem?
How to attach a screenshot or file in this forum. |

Without actually seeing the problem document, it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document (not just a screenshot) to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

The screenshot is attached but let me know if that does not work.

You had already attached the screenshot in post #5. As I said in post #10, though, a screenshot is inadequate - we need to see an actual document...

Can I post just the first page? It is 53 pages total.
Or I could email it to you, its a chapter of my dissertation so I don't really want to post the whole thing online. |

As I also said in post #10, what we need is a document with some representative data - not the entire document. So, provided it's a page demonstrating the issue, yes.

Was this problem ever resolved? My documents are having the same issue--also page 1/footnote 1, also a large chunk of space, and also a dissertation! Any help would be appreciated it.
