HELP - Cannot use Word
My computer guy put Word 7 in my computer. Everything worked fine.
When I went to bed last night, the computer said that there were Word updates. Today, when I try to open a new document, it said "Microsoft office Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application." When I try to open an existing document, it said "The command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click Okay and the close dialog boxes to continue." I just talked to my computer guy and he does not know what is going on. Please help. I have thousands of documents that I cannot access. |

Uh, you really should be talking more with your "computer guy."
Word 7 = Word 2007? The one with the Office "pizza button" instead of the File button? What version of Word do I have? by Shauna Kelly If so, under the Control Panel for Programs and Applications, find Word 2007 or Office 2007 and choose to modify or change (not uninstall). You should be given the option to repair. Choose that. Keep in mind that Office 2007 is no longer under any kind of support from Microsoft. See if your computer guy can get you all of the patches and updates that have been done in the past ten years+. |

I did all of that. It did not work

So, you ran setup and installed Word 2007?

I did exactly what you said to do, step by step. It took a long time. I am NOT good about computers. I am old and they scare me.

I doubt you are as old as I am.

Again, your computer guy should be the one dealing with this. He messed up. |

This is what I did: If so, under the Control Panel for Programs and Applications, find Word 2007 or Office 2007 and choose to modify or change (not uninstall). You should be given the option to repair. Choose that.
I do not know anything about setup. |

What is a dialog box? |

Talk to your computer guy. You may need a disk. |

A dialog box is something that pops up on your screen asking you to do something or asking for you to type something. |

Why are you not talking with your computer guy?
If he does not know what a dialog box is, he is not a computer guy. He was supposed to run setup for you. |

This discussion is starting to sound very much like your so-called 'computer guy' has installed a pirated version of Office for you (i.e. if you didn't but it from a reputable retailer, you quite possibly you don't have a licence for it). Don't expect help with that.

Thank you, but I do not have a clue what that means.

I find it hard to believe anyone would not know what that means. Do a web search on "software piracy".

This does not sound good. He has provided me with my last three computers.
