Default Repeating table of contents

Hi all,

Hope you can help with this one. I am writing a thesis and require 2 table of contents, 1 after the other. The first just needs to include the chapter titles which are formatted as heading 1 (from styles) with the page number.

e.g.

Chapter 1 ...... pg 1
Chapter 2........pg 50 etc

The second TOC then needs to be more detailed and include the sub-headings within each chapter:

e.g.

Chapter 1....pg 1
Subchapter 1.....pg 2
Subchapter 2.....pg 3
Chapter 2.....pg 50
Subchapter 1.....pg 51 etc

When I do this, it seems that the first TOC also references the second TOC for some reason. Is there a way my first TOC can 'ignore' the second TOC so it doesn't reference it.

Hope you can help!

Tom

For your first TOC, specify that it apply only to the Style used for the Chapter headings (presumably Heading1). For your 2nd TOC, include all required heading Styles.

Make sure neither TOC is attached to a paragraph using a Heading Style.

If the Chapters require their own TOCs, bookmark the Chapter ranges, then reference the relevant bookmark in each TOC.
