Default How to cross reference figures or tables when option is not given

I am working on quite a long document that includes layered headings tables and figures. I am adding in cross references. I can cross reference headings OK but would also like to use words cross reference option with hyperlinks to cross reference tables and figures, however the drop down list does not give me those options, nor are they inluded in the list under numbered items. Instructions online tell me that when I go to 'cross reference' they should be included in the list of options, but they are not. Is there a way to fix this ?

A screenshot or two would help here.

In my experience, if the CrossRef is showing as Italic, it is because the source text has italic applied to it by direct formatting. If the source uses a paragraph style that is italic then the crossref will not bring the italic with it.

And, if the source text style has Italic formatting that has been turned off with direct formatting, the cross-reference will also show up as Italic. Italic and bold are toggles, not absolutes.
