Problem Printing Hidden Text from all computers
All,
I'm new here and did a search related to my above mentioned issue and nothing I've found has given me the answer. I created a document (ISO Related) and used a text box for my "hidden text". The hidden text is one word "UNCONTROLLED". The idea being that while someone is looking at the document on the server they don't see the text. However when it's printed, the document prints with the "UNCONTROLLED" across the page. I've set the page layout to "Print Hidden Text". It works perfectly when I view it and print it from my computer, however it does not work when anyone else does the same. I've tried printing a hidden watermark through a macro but that didn't work either. I've seen some solutions that suggest just changing the color of the text to something very light so it's hard to see on the screen but shows on printed paper. This is not a good option. I believe what I'm looking to do is possible but perhaps I've got something set incorrectly. I've attached a page of the document for reference. Keith |

Whether or not hidden text is printed is an application setting on each user's computer. It is not a document setting.
You do not have control over that setting on someone else's computer. The suggestion of a light watermark is the best you are going to be able to do. You can make it difficult to change or erase the watermark, but not impossible. I generally have display of hidden text turned on when I use Word. Your method would not hide it from me. I suspect the same is true of at least some of the people who would be using your document. If you have the Office Information Rights capabilities, you could likely do something with those. I have never used it, so do not know. |

You could possibly code something in printer language (i.e. postscript and PCL) that would print. It has been at least 20 years since I've attempted that.
https://wordribbon.tips.net/T009567_..._Commands.html This will not work on all printers, though. http://support.ricoh.com/bb_v1oi/pub...l/int/0115.htm I expect that for me, this would be a half-day to two-day project. I'm not sure it would be successful. |

Charles,
Thanks for the reply! It seems like this is something logical that should be able to be done easily but perhaps not. I tried using a macro as well but it wasn't working properly (even though the code was right). The IRM I believe only sets user permissions i.e. who can access, read/write, etc. I appreciate the quick reply! Keith |

My recollection (and again, it has been some time) is that you end up with an invisible field in your document that the printer sees. This is very arcane stuff.
